Official race site →

The Goole Riverbank Challenge is Goole Viking Striders' annual 10k, first run in 2004 and licensed in 2026 under licence 30747, when it sold out at 350 entries. The 2027 race is on Sunday 18 July, starting at 11:00. Race HQ is Goole Town Cricket Club, Westfield, Carr Lane, Goole, DN14 6NF, which provides registration, baggage storage, toilets, changing facilities and free parking, with the start and finish line on the bank of the River Ouse a short walk away. The course is a flat, single-lap, multi-terrain 10 kilometres with around 13 metres of total ascent: it starts on the riverbank, follows the riverside path into the village of Hook, loops around the Riverside Gardens bandstand and returns along the riverbank to the finish. Sections of the riverbank path are narrow and runners are single file in places; these are marshalled and covered in the runner briefing. The course is not suitable for wheelchairs. The race is chip timed with kilometre markers and water stations on the course, a minimum age of 15, and a £2 discount for runners affiliated to their national governing body. The 10k is the licensed race, with a licence requested for 350 entries and the option to extend towards 500 if demand supports it. It is a friendly, inclusive community event rather than an elite race, and for 2027 it becomes a full day: a children's fun run follows once the 10k field has finished, to be included within the licence as part of the event programme, and an event village with food from the venue, local traders and family entertainment runs alongside and after the races. The village activities are non-athletics and are insured separately, with traders providing their own public liability cover. Marshals are all aged 18 or over, in hi-vis and briefed with written instructions, a lead bike and sweep accompany the field, medical cover is provided by an external first-aid provider, and a risk assessment and event plan are held by the Race Director.
