FAQs

How do I calculate my running pace?

Divide your total finishing time by the distance. For example, if you run a marathon (42.195 km) in 4 hours (14,400 seconds), your pace is 14,400 ÷ 42.195 = 341 seconds per km, which is 5:41/km. Our calculator above does this for you instantly.

What is a good pace for a beginner?

Most beginners start at 6:30–8:00 per km (10:30–12:50 per mile). A popular first target is running 5K in 30 minutes, which requires a pace of 6:00/km. Don't worry about pace early on — focus on building the habit of running regularly.

What is the difference between pace and speed?

Pace is time per unit of distance (e.g. 5:30 per km), while speed is distance per unit of time (e.g. 10.9 km/h). Runners typically prefer pace because it's easier to track at each kilometre marker during a race.

How do I convert pace per km to pace per mile?

Multiply your per-km pace by 1.60934. For example, 5:00/km × 1.60934 ≈ 8:03/mi. Our calculator shows both km and mile paces automatically.
