This is not for you if

Finishing, with no clock in mind? Your first marathon is that plan.

How to move from a half marathon to a marathon.

A marathon is 42.2km, twice the distance of a half. The long run is the session that closes that gap. Pick a goal before you start: finish, or a time you already have. Start a plan and the app gives you the exact session.

  1. Start from a finished half or 10km

A completed half marathon is the usual base. A 10km works too, because the plan builds the long run across the block. If 42.2km feels too far right now, run a half first.

  2. Choose the goal

Finishing means the no-time-target marathon plan. A time you already have means a plan on the marathon hub.

  3. Start the plan in the app

The no-time-target marathon plan is 16 weeks. Most weeks have four runs, including a faster session, easy running and a long run. The long run builds to 32 km. The app holds the exact sessions. Workouts sync to Garmin, Coros, Apple Watch, Apple Health and Health Connect.

  4. Count back from race day

Pick your race on the race calendar. Count back 16 weeks from race day and start on the Monday after that date. Each race page shows the exact Monday.

How long the step-up takes.

The step-up is one full block: 16 weeks on the no-time-target marathon plan, whether you are coming from a half or a 10km. Start at week 1 when you can. If race day is closer, join later and keep the long run as the session you protect.

Racing in April?

Count back 16 weeks from race day. For a marathon in late April, week 1 lands in early January. Earlier in April means a December start. Race pages on the race calendar show the Monday to start. Starting earlier is fine. Use the extra weeks for easy running.

Choose a race.

The plan is the training. A race gives you the date to count back from. Use the race calendar to choose the event.

How long does it take to go from a half marathon to a marathon?

16 weeks on the no-time-target marathon plan. Start at week 1 when you can. If race day is closer, join later and keep the long run as the session you protect. The exact sessions are in the app.

When should I start training for an April marathon?

Can I go from a 10km straight to a marathon?

How many runs a week is the marathon plan?

Four most weeks, including a faster session, easy running and a long run. Spread them out so you have recovery between them.

How long is the longest run before a marathon?
